After the golden ram that rescued Phrixos, taking him to the land of Colchis, Phrixos sacrificed the ram to the gods and hung its skin in a temple, where it was known as the Golden Fleece. It is the fleece of the winged ram Chrysomallos.
It figures in the tale of Jason and his band of Argonauts, who set out on a quest for the fleece in order to place Jason rightfully on the throne of Iolcus in Thessaly.
 

Hamal:

A yellow giant in 66 light years distance. The arab name means ram, sheep or lamb. Sometimes he is also called Elnath (arabic for "The one who pokes with his horn").

Sheratan:

A white star in 59 light years distance. The arabic name means Sign. It was also used for Arietis, because both stars where near the equinox in 300 - 400 B.C. He is also called Elscheratain (arabic for "The both signs").
